The Marlins are South West Rocks' local rugby league team, competing in the Hastings League against clubs from as far south as Harrington, all the way up to neighbouring Smithtown, in what is a fantastic local Derby. 2014 proved to be very successful, with a 2th spot finish on the ladder and place in the finals. The club (open to players over 16) was born from the old Gaolers rugby union club, which sadly folded in 2012 after 22 years.
The Hastings League is the second oldest continuous competition, behind the NRL, and the Marlins acceptance in 2013 paved the way for other clubs to change codes and follow suit.
South West Rocks has a number of talented league players, who now have a local team to progress onto from junior clubs. But the Marlins is not all about match day competition. They have formed a strong network of friends and supporters, and created a family atmosphere at their events. In addition to match days they host several social functions. They also hold weekly meat raffles at the Country Club on Saturday afternoons.
Twice-weekly training sessions take place at the Sports field on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between February and September.
