I am writing to proudly nominate Nancy Pattison for the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Nancy is a young Indigenous woman whose dedication to caring for Country, protecting
the environment, and strengthening cultural knowledge has made a profound impact on
our community. Through her volunteer work, she demonstrates outstanding leadership,
generosity, and cultural pride well beyond her years.
She is deeply committed to caring for Country and educating others about the
importance of environmental stewardship from an Indigenous perspective. Her work
reflects a strong connection to land, culture, and sustainability, inspiring both young
people and adults to respect and protect the environment.
Nancy regularly teaches in schools, sharing her Aboriginal culture and language with
students in meaningful and engaging ways. Through storytelling, dance, and language,
she creates safe and inclusive learning spaces where students gain a deeper
understanding of Indigenous knowledge, history, and identity. Her ability to connect with
students fosters respect, curiosity, and cultural awareness.
In addition, she facilitates weaving lessons with adults, using traditional practices
alongside dance and language to strengthen cultural connections and community
wellbeing. These sessions not only pass on important cultural skills but also create
opportunities for healing, learning, and intergenerational connection.
Nancy gives her time, knowledge, and energy selflessly, always guided by a strong
sense of responsibility to community and her culture. Her contributions have had a
lasting and positive impact, and she is a powerful role model for young people and the
wider community.
For her commitment to caring for Country, cultural education, and community
engagement, I strongly believe Nancy is a deserving recipient of the Volunteer of the
Year Award.
